The history of Can Batlló is also the history of our city, and within it strong tensions and struggles have arisen over time. The frenzied acceleration that has dominated Barcelona in recent decades has torn apart the life of the city of trades, annihilating all its activity and leaving the Can Batlló complex as a vast void built in the middle of the city. An abandoned compound, an uninhabited city. The last great industrial site in Barcelona, strategically located and still preserved in its entirety today, is one of the largest industrial complexes ever to exist in our city. In the dead-end street where we now find ourselves, the transformation of Can Batlló can only mean a new and profound reflection on how to build the city, from the shared responsibility we all bear in shaping the territory we inhabit.

Recently, within the complex, the seed of an alternative has begun to sprout: the dream that another city is possible. We have decided to inhabit the city once again, to fill its streets with life, to raise the gates of the warehouses and unseal doors and windows. After more than three years of effort, we continue to fight day by day to build the city we want.
